Regardless of how hard one studies or sleepless nights a student spends, everyone experiences exam stress.
The last night anxiety, peer pressure of parents and less time for revisions, everything affects the performance and results in less efficiency and more burnout.
Looking at all these factors, it becomes very important to manage the exam stress and be more productive to see better results.
Here we bring across some tips to manage exam stress which will help you next time to maintain the calm:
- Timely breaks and exercise
Include short breaks in your study schedule. Spending a little time away from books will leave you more fresh and rejuvenated. Exercise regularly as nothing de-stresses the mind faster than doing any physical activity. Go out for a walk, or a run, or head to the gym or swimming pool. Exercise is known to boost your mood and can help to make you more productive while revising. Being lazy turns anyone inactive which is the last thing anyone wants to be during exams. Take an uninterrupted sound sleep of straight 7-8 hours.
- Don’t compare with others
The root cause of all the panic and anxiety is comparing yourself with other competitors. “Are you done with all the syllabus for JEE Mains?” Such type of questions will always leave you demotivated. Everyone has a different approach, choose the method that works best for you. Listening to other people talk about what they’ve learnt will only stress you out and may make you feel like you aren’t progressing as well as them. Make a timetable and stick to it religiously. Don’t lose your inspiration and read motivational stories.
- Talk to someone
When pressure levels reach the maximum heights, seek help and talk to someone. Better it be a counsellor, who can advise you better on how to manage the stress and come out of it. You can also approach any friend or family member whom you are close to so he can bring a better perspective to your thoughts. Moreover, you will be glad to know that you are not alone in this. Everyone in his life at some point gone through the same stress.
- Eat right
Food plays an important role in setting your mood right. Eating heavy and fried foods will leave you dizzy and decrease your metabolism. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables rather. Fuel your brain as well as your body. With this, your brain will be able to concentrate more on studies. Don’t take too much caffeine. Cigarettes and alcohol never stopped anyone being stressed for very long. Quit the bad habits.
- Don’t panic
Panic experiences are encountered in the last minute. So, if you feel yourself out of normal mannerism, sit back for a moment and control your breathing. Deep breath in and out, counting to five each way. Write down everything you feel like you need to do and try and tick one thing off. Just the act of feeling like you are in control of your revision can help.
At last, a little exam nervousness is good and unavoidable. Don’t let it spoil your hard work. Good luck!
